Tagata Shrine - The “Secret Shrine of Japan” symbolizing manhood. Enakyo Gorge located on the Kiso River with 20 giant strange and mysterious rocks along the river. Village of Shirakawa-go: Registered as a UNESCO World Heritage Site in 1995, famous for its thatched roof houses known as Gasshozukuri. The Gassho-zukuri, "hand in prayer" style is characterized by steeply slanting roof resembling two hands joined in prayer. Myozen-ji - Known for its unique thatched roof gate “Shoro-mon. Impressive transom carvings inside the building and beautiful yew trees is said to preserve harmony within the grounds. Deai Bridge - A suspension bridge which connects between Shirakawa-go Gassho villages.
Omicho Market - Kanazawa's largest fresh food market since the Edo Period with over 170 shops and stalls. Kenrokuen Garden - One of Japan's “Three most beautiful gardens" with an area of 11.4 hectares. Kanazawa Castle - A large, well-restored castle in Kanazawa. Though it was burnt down several times over the centuries, the castle's Ishikawa-mon Gate still remains.
Gokayama which means five valleys, also listed as a UNESCO World Heritage Site. The houses are uniquely built in the style called “Gassho-zukuri” and have three or four floors. The steep roofs are at 60 degrees to prevent snow building up on them, and no nails are used in the construction of these houses.
Takayama Old Streets ~ Streets are lined with beautifully preserved Edo-style townhouses with a small watercourse. A pleasant glimpse into the history and culture of this old town.
Jinya - Served as a local government office during the Edo Period is now designated as a historical landmark and national importance. Festival Float Exhibition Hall - Held in spring (April 14 and 15) and autumn (October 9 and 10); ranked as one of Japan's most beautiful festivals. The hall exhibits elaborately decorated floats which are several hundred years’ old and spectacular examples of Takayama's legendary craftsmanship.
Miyagawa Morning Market is one of the largest morning markets in Japan with a great variety of stalls selling local crafts, souvenirs, snacks, vegetables, fruits, pickles, flowers and many more. Gujo-Hachiman is a charming historic town where the town still preserves the traditional townscape with many historic buildings and original waterways from the 17th century. Scroll through this picturesque old street known as the “Little Kyoto”.
